MELIA HOTEL YANGON

Rating: Deluxe

Peering out over the picturesque Inya Lake and adjacent to Myanmar Plaza, one of the country’s most popular shopping malls, the Melia Hotel Yangon will perfectly suit those looking for scenic views and a sense of rest and relaxation combined with modern convenience.

The property boasts 429 rooms, which can be found split into eight categories; Deluxe, Premium, Premium Lake View, The Level Room, Junior Suite, Suite, Grand Suite and Presidential Suite. The Deluxe (48m2) and Premium rooms (57m2) will be perfectly adequate for most, although it’s important to stress that these offer city views only. For a view of Inya Lake, we’d recommend you start with the Premium Lake View and work up from there budget permitting. To guarantee the best view, an upgrade to The Level Room is worth considering; this is the same size as the Premium Lake View, but with a high-up 20th to 22nd floor position and executive lounge access.

The food and beverage options at Melia Hotel Yangon are excellent. The Market, an all-day dining restaurant, serves a decent variety of both local and international cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Olea Mediterranean restaurant’s bright, spacious and tastefully furnished interior is one of Tour Mandalay’s favourite western options in town; although it’s not cheap, the quality of food and wine served here are phenomenal, as is the service. For a high-end South East Asian fix, look no further than The Lantern; this offers an elegant and modern Vietnamese dining experience with live cooking.

With the Garbo Bar (located on the ground floor) open until 01:00, there’s no need to retire early; this combines the best of drinking and eating in a casual, yet classy setting.

If overindulging’s not your thing, why not slow down the pace at the luxurious YHI spa, or turn it up a few notches in the spacious and well-equipped fitness centre?

Facilities:

  • Three restaurants (The Lantern Vietnamese, Olea Mediterranean, The Market all-day dining)
  • Two bars (Garbo Bar and Elyxr lobby bar)
  • Outdoor swimming pool
  • Gym
  • Spa (YHI)
