Located on the lower block of Pansodan Road, the Rangoon Tea House is a must for anyone looking to experience a typical tea house menu in a comfortable, yet authentic setting. Even though the interior feels slightly modern in style, the carefully restored space is reminiscent of the grand tea houses you would have found in Yangon during the British colonial heyday and some parts of India.

The entrance to Ragoon Tea House

A warm welcome

Having recently opened, we had no idea what to expect from Rangoon Tea House. Would we be sitting outside on the street? Was it going to be jam-packed with plastic tables and chairs, with waiters frantically trying to take people’s orders? No, actually it was quite the opposite. After climbing the creaky wooden staircase to the second floor, we were pleasantly surprised to find an extremely spacious, air-conditioned space with a team of friendly staff at the ready to greet us.

Rangoon Tea House – a modern take on a traditional tea house

At the time of writing this review, the Rangoon Tea House was experimenting with a soft menu, so please note that some of the dishes below might not make the official menu – hopefully this will not be the case as they were all top-notch and we would not hesitate to order either dish again.

Even though these photos were taken using a mobile phone’s camera, hopefully you will agree that they were all perfectly presented and prepared using only the finest of ingredients. Even the friend egg of the mango pickle pork lunch set was cooked to perfection! As you’d expect from the company’s name and logo, the menu also offers a great selection of traditional Myanmar tea drinks.

Coconuts for sale – we loved the amount of thought Rangoon Tea House have put into their interior decoration

Overall we were extremely impressed with our experience at Rangoon Tea House – the food quality and service were exceptional and it was clear to see that a lot of care and thought had gone into the design of the interior. Best of all, it was also great value – lunch for 4 people set us back just under $40. Along with the recently reviewed Port Autonomy, this is easily one of the best and most original dining experiences in downtown Yangon. Be sure to plan your trip around it!
