SULE SHANGRI-LA YANGON

Rating: Deluxe

At present, the Sule Shangri-La Hotel Yangon (formerly known as Traders) is one of the best centrally located luxury options in downtown. Just a short walk from the hotel’s lobby will see you on the front door steps of Bogyoke Market, the historic central fire station, the 2000-year-old Sule Pagoda, Yangon City Hall, Maha Bandoola Park and the High Court. From here it is then just a short distance away from some of the city’s best restaurants such as Gekko, Sharky’s and Rangoon Tea House.

With 479-rooms the Shangri-La is not exactly small, but they’re extremely well appointed and surprisingly spacious considering the property’s cramped downtown location. Those looking for a slightly more refined experience should consider upgrading to one of the Horizon Club rooms; for just that little bit extra you will gain access to a whole host of advantages including complimentary late check out and a personal concierge service. It is also possible to enjoy breakfast from the club lounge with its unrivalled view of Shwedagon Pagoda and Yangon’s Central Station. Regardless of which room type you choose, all guests will benefit from access to the hotel’s outdoor pool and adjacent fitness centre.

In a country where internet speed is frustratingly slow, the hotel also offers the fastest and most reliable internet connection available anywhere (please do not expect anything too speedy however).

Facilities:

  • Two restaurants (Café Sule and Summer Palace)
  • Bar (The Gallery Bar)
  • Lobby bar / restaurant (Peacock Lounge)
  • Swimming pool
  • Fitness centre
  • Spa
